YOUR ASA EXPERIENCE

You will receive individualized support from ASA’s advisors and staff throughout your program application process, while you are abroad, and when you return.

Before you depart we will work with you and the staff at your home institution to help you prepare for your time abroad. We are happy to speak with you to discuss ways you can maximize your experience in your host country. You will also receive a detailed pre-departure orientation guide which will help you know what to pack, what to expect when you arrive, and how to stay safe while abroad.

Once you arrive in Aix you will participate in our onsite orientation with the other ASA students in your group. ASA’s site director will introduce you to your host city and culture through orientation and multiple events during the program. Our intentionally small group sizes allow ASA’s students to get to know one another and are an aspect of our programs for which our alumni consistently express their appreciation. You will have opportunities to meet other students and lots of new people through your classes, social events and optional language partners.

ASA programs include excursions, volunteer opportunities, housing, meals, academic credits, transcripts, airport pick-up on arrival, medical insurance and more! Contact ASA or your advisor to learn about ASA’s Price Guarantee for all of our programs.

Whether you consider yourself a hobbyist or heading towards a profession in painting or drawing, the Marchutz School of Fine Art is an experience you won’t want to miss. A combination of spontaneous perceptual painting and drawing, museum visits, critical dialogue and a community of artists at all levels build the holistic approach to art education that Leo Marchutz developed for this program. Your instructor will guide you in your choice of either English or French language during your work in the studio, out in the fields of Provence or in one of the Place (squares) of the city center. You can study where Cezanne and other famous artists were inspired under the famous light of Provence. The Marchutz School was established by the Institute for American Universities which is one of the oldest and largest education abroad programs in Europe.

This program is for students at all levels of French language. Students will study French language and culture in addition to fine arts electives. Electives are taught in English and include subject areas such as Drawing, Painting, Art Criticism and Aesthetics, Photography, and Creative Writing. Language level placement exams will be administered at the beginning of the program. Students may opt to take one elective at the Aix Center of Humanities and Social Sciences. A full list of classes for this program can be found on the ASA website through the link at the top of this page.

May combine Spring Semester with J-term traveling seminar to Morocco, Gibraltar, Spain and France. See ASA website for details.

"My time spent abroad was absolutely amazing, and I give
a lot of credit to ASA for making it the best it could be."

- Kara McCrudden, ASA Alumni
